The Social Security Map - Fernando Dutra
The Social Security Map is an ebook I designed for Fernando Dutra, a pension consultant.
Moodboard
Fernando envisioned his ebook with a visual style inspired by old treasure maps.
He shared a few examples of designs he liked, and I supplemented that by researching additional elements that aligned with his taste and the theme.
Elements
Below are some of the approved Pirates and Sailor-themed elements used in the ebook.
The lighthouse illustration appears whenever the ebook offers a tip related to previous themes—symbolizing a guiding light that brings clarity amidst the rough waters of complex topics.
Typograph
Although Montserrat is a modern sans-serif typeface—quite different from the classic serif or script styles often associated with pirate and sailor themes—it was chosen for its excellent readability and the sense of trust it conveys.
The main goal of using this typeface was to ensure clarity and seriousness in the communication—something a more stylized, pirate-like font wouldn’t effectively deliver.
The final ebook
Since the ebook is quite long, here are some of the highlight pages to showcase.
Making of the Portfolio's Scenario
I used Adobe Firefly, an AI-powered image generation tool, to create the scene where I showcased the highlighted pages of the ebook.
To generate the background, I uploaded a reference image and used the prompt: “Top view of a rustic wooden table with papers in the center and golden coins scattered around.” Depending on the variation I wanted, I also added elements like a compass, candle, knife, or musket.
